You will find a bit of history on every corner and after you discover its many secrets, you are free to enjoy an evening of entertainment, great food and craic in this much celebrated city.
After a short drive to Rossaveal pier, we will sail across Galway Bay to the Aran Islands. We will arrive on the rugged Inishmore Island, the largest of the three Aran Islands. We will then explore the island by jaunting on the narrow roads which run along the many walled fields and take us to the historic stone fort of Dún Aenghus, which lies 100m over the ocean before making our way back to the mainland. No doubt you will pick up “cúpla focail” (a few words) of Irish as we experience the natural beauty of this wild Atlantic treasure.
Our tour will then return by ferry to Rosaveal Pier where we continue onto the stunning town of Westport. The journey to Westport will allow us to take in the breathtaking views of Connemara National Park and the Lost Valley which is part of the famous Famine Trail.
Westport, in County Mayo, is a destination town for both tourists and locals alike and is a favourite “staycation” destination for Irish people. Unwind with some local craft beers and excellent food in Westport Town. For those seeking the famous Irish “craic“, there is plenty to be found at a traditional Irish music session in Matt Molloy’s bar.
Wake up fresh and enjoy a wonderful walking tour of Westport town and guided tour of Westport House. Westport House is surrounded by the majestic expanse of Clew Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and Ireland’s holy mountain Croagh Patrick. Embrace a tour culminating in 300 years of Irish heritage in this beautiful manor and enjoy a myriad of attractions throughout the grounds. This will be an unforgettable experience.
After lunch, we leave Westport and head north towards Yeat’s County. County Sligo is called Yeat’s County after the celebrated Irish poet, William Butler Yeats. Our afternoon will take in the wilds of Sligo before journeying North West to the Gaeltacht of County Donegal. A Gaeltacht is a place in Ireland where the Irish language is still commonly spoken. Our accommodation this evening will be in the picturesque town of Ardara.
We will start the day with a magnificent drive over the Glengesh Pass, visit Maghera Beach, caves and the Assaranca Waterfall. We will spend time exploring the stone fort of Grianán of Aileach, embrace the stunning views from the hilltop in Inishowen, before crossing the border of Northern Ireland.
Our next stop is Londonderry, Northern Ireland’s second largest city, which is steeped in rich history. A must-see is the old walled city, which lies on the west bank of the River Foyle. You can choose to take a walking tour of the city or simply have some free time to roam the streets discovering exciting shops, eateries and historical places at every turn.
