We leave Irish capital of Dublin and journey to the to the magical South West. As we journey towards County Cork, we will have a quick 15 minute photo stop at the famous medieval round tower, chapel and cathedral at The Rock of Cashel.
Cork city is the second largest by population in Ireland but locals will argue that it is the country’s TRUE capital. Our Cork experience begins with the famous “kiss of the Blarney Stone” where all that do will be granted the “the gift of the gab“. While at Blarney Castle we will also explore the beautiful gardens, castle and rock close.
We then depart Blarney and move to the historic port and fishing town of Kinsale. Kinsale is one of the most picturesque towns on the south west coast of Ireland. We will take you on a guided walking tour of the town where we will get to see all of its beauty. The town is famous for its long waterfront, yacht-filled harbor, narrow streets and it is also the start/finish point for the Wild Atlantic Way. We will stay the night in Kinsale which is also a huge “foodie” destination due to its many award-winning restaurants.
Our morning departure from Kinsale will bring us to the famed Ring of Kerry. The Ring of Kerry has many highlights to see including Moll’s Gap and Torc Waterfall. We will enjoy a two hours cycle around Killarney National Park. The park has numerous trails to choose from, each with their own unique beauty and splendor.
Our day’s final destination is the celebrated cozy coastal town of Dingle. The evening is free for you to absorb the atmosphere in Dingle’s fantastic restaurants and famous quirky pubs which host many unforgettable traditional music sessions.
A favourite amongst the Overland guides, this morning begins with a kayak trip on Dingle Bay where we will get to meet the town’s most famous local, Fungie the Dolphin. Alternatively, if kayaking is not your thing, why not catch some waves at Inch Beach, a best-loved place amongst Ireland’s surf community.
This afternoon, our expert guides will take you on a breathtaking trip along the Slea Head Drive where we finish off your perfect day at the Dingle Whiskey Distillery. The tour of the distillery with include a history of whiskey production around the world and a taste of their award-winning whiskey and gin.
We spend another night in the buzzing town of Dingle, so you don’t need to repack your suitcases. Just relax and enjoy.
We will leave Dingle and travel north towards County Clare. Our route takes us through the dramatic Conor Pass with drops and encroaching cliffs at every turn towards Castlegregory. We then cross the mighty River Shannon by ferry to leave the South West of Ireland behind.
Our Shannon crossing brings us into County Clare, home to The Burren and the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. The Cliffs of Moher are simply breathtaking. We will explore the cliffs by foot, on a two-and-a-half-hour hike. The vistas, the fresh air, the roar of the Atlantic will make this an unforgettable experience. We take you off the beaten track and point out a host of special locations along the way. We will also move away from the well beaten tourist paths as we have many secret passages to show you. The cliffs are truly inspiring and are steeped in myth and wonder.
Our accommodations this evening are in the most welcoming and colorful village of Doolin, the home-town of traditional Irish music.
Our next destination is The West of Ireland and our morning departure from Doolin will bring us via the Burren National Park to County Galway. We will visit Corcomroe Abbey a 13th-century Cistercian monastery and Poulnabrone Dolmen a portal tomb, one of approximately 172 in Ireland. We will also stop in the quaint fishing village town of Kinvara where we will visit Dunguaire Castle which dates back to the 16th Century.
Galway City is a must visit destination on any trip to Ireland. It has it’s own unique style and vibe and is world-famous in arts and culture. It is a medieval city and its narrow winding streets are home to many brightly painted pubs, shops, restaurants and galleries. The streets are also famous for all-day street entertainment where you will get to see some fantastic musicians and performers. In fact, the global phenomenon that is Ed Sheeran, used to busk on the streets of Galway as a young teenager.
Food is also high on the menu of Galway and it is often referred to as the country’s Gastronomy Capital. There is no better way to sample its many culinary delights that than on our Irish food tour, where you will get to taste modern Irish cuisine paired with Irish craft beer.
